HOBOKEN, NJ — Police responded to a shooting in Hoboken on Wednesday night, and less than an hour later, they found and arrested a teenager with a stolen gun — but so far, they have not confirmed the incidents are related, they said. The Hoboken police responded at 7:25 p.m. on Wednesday to the area of Fourth and Adams streets on a report of shots fired, they said. Witnesses told police that a group of juveniles or young adults were engaged in some type of a "dispute" with a male who was shirtless. The shirtless male was armed with a knife, police were told, and was shot at by someone in the group. The shirtless male and the group ran off in different directions, witnesses told police. Officers found 40 caliber spent casings and live rounds at the scene, which pointed to a handgun as the weapon used, they said. However, police said, "We have no reason to believe that anyone was shot." They said that so far, no one has been charged in connection with the crime, and no victims have been located. A Gun In His Back Pocket Meanwhile, at 8:02 p.m., police noticed a teenager with a bulge in his back pocket around 351 Observer Highway, not far from the Jersey City border. Officers Francis McCourt and Anthony Olivera stopped the 17-year-old for investigation. They found the gun, which had been reported stolen from Colorado, police said. The teen, a Jersey City resident, was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters. His parent was contacted and notified of his arrest, police say. He was charged with the delinquent act of Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Possession of Firearm for Unlawful Purpose, Receiving Stolen Property, and Obstruction of Administration of Law, police said. Police said the charges were placed on a warrant and the teen was remanded to juvenile intake.
