Being the boss doesn't just mean making sure your quarterly reports stay sitting pretty—it also entails making sure that your employees have a safe place to work when they come in every morning. Thankfully, there are a few simple ways you can make sure everyone stays safe when they're on the job… and that your property stays safe even when everyone is off the job. Today, we'll be going over the top 5 things you can do to make sure your workplace is secure every day. #1. Security Cameras Visual monitoring services such as CCTV security cameras are one of the most straight-forward ways to monitor your premises. There are many less obtrusive-looking models of camera available on the market, and keeping them at entry and exit points will help improve a sense of security while protecting your employees' privacy. #2. Under Lock and Key In our last article on office security, we discussed the importance of keeping your office locked. It's simple to do and may seem obvious, but you could consider upgrading your office with keyless locks to reduce the number of individuals who have a physical key in their possession. Lock all your doors when you or the last person in your office leaves, and make sure important documents are kept in a secure cabinet where strangers can't chance upon them. #3. Password Protected Did you know that one of the most common passwords in the world is simply 123456, and that it's one hackers manage to break past all the time? Even if your office space is as guarded as Fort Knox, it's not going to matter much if a digital thief can make off just as easily with your money and information as a physical one would be able to. Be sure to have strong protocols for good passwords you and your employees can use for all their work accounts and email addresses, and look into extra security measures like two-step authentication as well. #4: Secure Entry and I.D., Please Requiring that all your employees wear some kind of identification is helpful for businesses of any shape and size, and it's absolutely vital if you run a larger property like a warehouse or a manufacturing plant. Employee identification also helps in controlling access at any gated entry points to your facility's parking lots, warehouses, or other heavy-traffic locations. Something as simple as a laminated badge with your workers' names on them is all you should need, and there are plenty of affordable technologies that allow them to scan in without a hitch (plus, this can double as an effective way of knowing when your employees clock in and can replace an outdated punch-card system, as well). #5. Security Personnel On-Site All the security measures in the world won't be of much help to you if you don't have a physical presence on your premises to make sure they're enforced. Finding a security team to guard your workplace can make all the difference. It might not be as expensive to have a security guard on your grounds as you might think, and having an extra person or two on the payroll will still cost far less in the long run than having to replace stolen material.
