FRANKFORT, IL — Frankfort residents looking to get some time on the newly constructed ice rink at Main Park will have to wait a little longer. Uncooperative weather and a tear in the lining of the rink has caused the rink's opening to be delayed, according to Frankfort Park District officials. The ice rink, located at 400 W. Nebraska St., was constructed last week, but the liner was damaged, said Frankfort Park District Executive Director Gina Hassett. Crews discovered the tear when they tried to add additional layers of water to the rink. The tear in the lining coupled with mostly unseasonably warm temperatures has resulted in ice not fully forming on the rink, Hassett said. "We're having some of the warmest Decembers on record, so it's certainly challenging," Hassett said. The Frankfort Park District is asking residents to refrain from going on the ice rink until it is fully ready. Once open, the ice rink will be available for use from dawn to 9 p.m., with lights on from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. The rink is unsupervised, so those on the rink should use caution. For more information and for the latest updates on the ice rink, visit the Frankfort Park District website or its Facebook page.
