Family looking to adopt a dog

We are a family with kids ages 8-11 and one cat. We recently cared for a family member's dog and now that she's gone back home, we've decided we're ready to adopt. We'd prefer a young adult dog over a puppy. We do not have a fenced in yard but he/she will go for plenty of walks and trips to the park. We're glad to pay an assurance fee and give our vet info, etc. but we're not interested in paying hundreds of dollars for a pure bred or anything like that. Thanks for looking!
