POSITION OVERVIEW: The Shop Helper is charged with assisting technicians with shop cleanup, organization, parts pickup, and customer and vehicle delivery. This job requires a clean drug test and this employer does conduct random drug screenings. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: • Safely and effectively operate a forklift to include following procedures for daily inspection. • Assist with shop cleanup. • Assist with maintaining organization in the shop. • Pick up required parts for technicians. • Deliver customer vehicles. • Other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE AND ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS: The knowledge and physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Knowledge Requirements: • Proper handling of chemicals and lubricants. • Safety requirements for working in an industrial shop including proper eyewear, ear protection, and foot protection. • Hazards and safety precautions of the vehicle maintenance repair trade. • Care and use of basic hand tools. • Driving commercial trucks on private property. • Understand and carry out oral and written instructions. • Move or carry objects up to 75 pounds. • Lift arms above shoulder level to install and remove parts. • Valid driver’s license, current medical card, and a clean driving record. Work Environment: • Normal accessibility of all work sites required for the position • Normal exposure to weather and temperature extremes, cramped spaces, loud noises, chemicals and fumes, dust, heights or work safety hazards • Normal amount of overtime or extended work hours required Physical Effort • Normal physical mobility, which includes movement from place to place on the job taking distance and speed into account • Normal physical agility, which includes ability to maneuver body while in place • Normal physical strength to handle routine materials and tools • Normal physical strength to handle 50-pound object, taking frequency into consideration • Normal dexterity of hands and finger • Normal coordination, including eye-hand, hand-foot • Normal endurance Communication • Normal verbal communication • Normal written communication • Normal non-verbal communication Sensory Abilities • Normal ability to see, distinguish colors, hear, smell and taste • Normal sense of touch Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
