Come learn an overview of the laws surrounding special education. In order to be effective when advocating for your child's education, you need to understand the laws that can impact their educational experience. This training will provide an overview of Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Family Educational Right to Privacy Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act Missouri Parents Act (MPACT) is a non-profit that serves children with disabilities, their families, and communities throughout the state. MPACT has served as Missouri’s federally-funded Parent Training and Information Center since 1988.  MPACT also works in collaboration with, and receives funding from, the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).MPACT is committed to excellence as we provide FREE services and assistance to parents, families, and youth. Our mission is to empower families to advocate for themselves so that children with special educational needs can reach their full potential in education and life - through support, training, and education. MPACT staff and volunteers are located throughout Missouri and work with public and private agencies, parent groups, professional organizations and advocacy groups to achieve that goal.
