Framingham Fire Gets $25K Grant From State For Protective Gear

FRAMINGHAM, MA — The Framingham Fire Department will get nearly $25,000 from the state Department of Fire Services to purchase a variety of protective equipment. The grant comes from a $5 million pot delivered this week to departments across the state. This is the second year that funding has been awarded for firefighter safety as part of a $25 million bond bill filed by the governor in 2020 to support firefighter safety and health in the coming years. Framingham will be able to use the money to buy a variety of protective gear — everything from boots and helmets to rescue saws, thermal imaging cameras, radios and cold weather protection suits. "We often see and hear about heroic rescues in the face of obvious and overwhelming danger, but the risks firefighters face go well beyond those events," Secretary of Public Safety and Security Terrence Reidy said in a news release. "I am thrilled that we can provide so many fire departments with this funding for equipment that will reduce firefighters' long-term exposure to the cancer-causing materials they encounter every day at work."
