SILVER SPRING, MD — Firefighters removed bricks from a chimney in a Silver Spring home in order to rescue a man who was stuck inside on Saturday, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Spokesperson Pete Piringer tweeted.
Though it's unclear how the man got into the chimney, a Montgomery County Police spokesperson told WTOP they believe he was trying to rob the home when he got stuck.
ABC News reported that the family could hear banging and a human voice coming from somewhere in their fireplace, prompting them to call police.
Piringer said firefighters worked for about an hour and half, removing bricks from around the chimney in order to get the man out. He had non-life threatening injuries and was being escorted by police.
MCP will determine if charges will be filed against the man, ABC News reported.
