JOLIET, IL — A 32-year-old Crest Hill woman remains in the Will County Jail after Joliet police say she was involved in a hit-and-run crash in the 100 block of South Hammes Avenue on Monday afternoon. When Joliet police tried to arrest Brittany Gaston, she kicked one of the patrol officers, according to police spokesman Dwayne English.
Gaston faces charges of aggravated battery to a peace officer, obstructing justice, leaving the scene of a property damage accident and resisting arrest.
Police say Gaston's crash happened around 2:15 p.m. She collided with the back end of a car driven by a 33-year-old Joliet man. The man suffered minor injuries and refused medical attention.
"A description of Gaston and her vehicle was broadcast to other officers in the area," Joliet police reports show. "Officers located a damaged vehicle matching the description of the vehicle involved in the collision northbound Midland Avenue from West Jefferson Street."
Gaston was pulled over near Midland and Glenwood Avenue and "Gaston repeatedly refused to cooperate with officers requesting her information," English announced. "Officers then ordered Gaston out of the vehicle."
After Gaston was arrested, "she kicked an officer in the leg while she was being placed in a squad car. She was transported to the Joliet Police Department, where she refused to cooperate with booking procedures," police reports show.
Joliet police said Gaston was also cited for driving while license suspended, leaving the scene of a property damage accident and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
Gaston lives in the 500 block of Crest Hill's Pasenda Avenue. Her bail was set at $50,000, jail logs show.
