Description

A comprehensive course educating new and current beekeepers in best practices for sustainable beekeeping. This introductory course prepares new beekeepers, as well as experienced beekeepers, to start up and manage bee colonies in a manner that ensures health and sustainability. Topics include bee biology, locating hives, equipment needs, purchasing and putting your bees in the hive, inspections, how to manage the colony through all four seasons, diseases and treatments, harvesting and selling your honey, protecting the bees from pesticides and planting a garden for your bees and other pollinators. On Saturday, 2/19, the class will run from 8:45 am to 4:30 pm. Registration / sign-in will begin at 8:00 am and course instructors will stay and be available for questions until 5:15 pm at the end of the day. On Sunday, 2/20, the class will begin at 9:00 am and go to 2:15 pm. Course instructors will stay and be available for questions until 3:00 pm.
