To teach ESL at the local church level, teacher certification is required. SBCV churches host trainings, known as ESL Basic Workshops. Topics addressed at the 12-hour interactive workshop include: Organizing an ESL ministry Understanding a student’s English fluency and placement interview Techniques for teaching English Lesson planning Introducing vocabulary Teaching pronunciation Dealing with cultural misunderstandings Incorporating Biblical material into class sessions Sharing the gospel with students Recommended resources The Southern Baptist Convention of Virginia is a fellowship of Southern Baptist Convention churches cooperating to assist local congregations in their task of fulfilling the Great Commission as commanded by our Lord Jesus Christ. What does this mean? The SBC of Virginia is a grouping of over 700 local churches from across the Commonwealth of Virginia. We seek to have a global impact through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
