Three local artists – Arline Stern, 92, Sue Raymond, 84, and Pat Foster, 93 – have been featured nationally in the Expressions 2022 Calendar, an award-winning calendar that celebrates active aging and the arts. The artists were selected from applicants nationwide to be included in the full-color wall calendar. They are all featured in the Creative Inspiration section. Arline Stern was selected for her clay sculpture titled "Turtle," Sue Raymond for her watercolor titled "The Dancer" and Patricia Foster for her watercolor titled "Popsicles." All three artists are residents of The Fountains at Lake Pointe Woods in Sarasota. "It does not surprise me one bit that three of our residents are featured in the 2022 Expressions Calendar," said Peggy Beasley, Executive Director of The Fountains at Lake Pointe Woods, an independent and assisted living community. "Our community has a vibrant artist community that meets regularly to fellowship, create and celebrate each other. I'm so thrilled that their talents are being celebrated on a national level." Arline Stern has more than 60 years of ceramic and clay studies. She is originally from New York, where she studied at the renowned clay studios at the 92nd Street YMCA and at the Westchester County Art Center. Over the years, she has displayed her work in several galleries and had numerous one-woman shows. In addition to sculptural forms, she creates functional clay objects such as bowls, serving pieces and garden planters. "In today's world, we should surround ourselves with one-of-a-kind handmade objects that we appreciate and love," said Stern. Her work can be found at several museum gift shops and local galleries. Photos of her functional clay and sculptural clay creations can be found on her website, https://arlinestern.com. Sue Raymond was also born and raised in New York. Her passion for the arts came after she raised three daughters and retired from a successful law career. She learned to paint watercolor through adult education watercolor classes and found a medium that she was passionate about. Her painting "The Dancer" is inspired by her granddaughters. The Expressions Calendar is published by Watermark Retirement Communities, a national senior housing operator that manages more than 65 communities nationwide, including The Fountains at Lake Pointe Woods. This is the 23rd year that Watermark has published the calendar nationwide. The calendar has been awarded a Mature Media Award from the Assisted Living Federation of America (ALFA) and an ADDY Award® from the Tucson Advertising Federation. Complimentary copies of the Expressions 2022 Calendar are available while supplies last at The Fountains at Lake Pointe Woods, located at 3260 Lake Pointe Blvd in Sarasota.
