PORT WASHINGTON, NY — Former North Hempstead Town Supervisor Jon Kaiman announced he would be running for Congress to represent New York's 3rd Congressional District, filling the seat being left by Rep. Tom Suozzi as he runs for governor. In an interview with Blank Slate Media, Kaiman, 59, said he's running to take back the traditional values of the Democratic party and will focus on issues such as the economy, abortion, climate change, and Israel. "I look and see where the Democratic Party has gone and I have grave concerns," Kaiman said. "I think that we have lurched into uncharted territory taking us into extreme positions." Kaiman, who ran the Town from 2004 to 2013, currently serves as the deputy executive for Suffolk County. He has held that position since 2017. "I think these are clearly challenging times for us as a country," he said. "And this is a moment when we should be calling on people who have been in the arena or have been in the fight who have met the challenges that we face." Kaiman joins a race that includes Nassau County Legislator Joshua Lafazan, Port Washington's Melanie D'Arrigo, and Oyster Bay's Reema Rasool. New York's 3rd Congressional District encompasses Nassau County's North Shore, parts of northeastern Queens, and parts of northwestern Suffolk County.
