Description

NEWTON, MA — Newton Public Schools announced last week that they have paused contact tracing at the middle and high school levels for the next few weeks due to the current COVID-19 case surge. Instead of contact tracing, the district will notify a classroom, grade, or team that there was a positive case in the classroom and advise families and staff to actively monitor for symptoms, and to stay home if symptoms develop. The district will continue to conduct contact tracing as feasible at the elementary level. As of Thursday, Jan. 6, 64 percent of elementary students, 79 percent of middle school students, and 88 percent of high school students attending Newton Public Schools have been fully vaccinated.
