MARLBOROUGH, MA — The Marlborough Democratic City Committee will celebrate the one-year anniversary of its quarterly food drive effort with a new food drive. Over the 2021 Martin Luther King Jr. weekend, the Marlborough Democrats held a successful food drive — with some 2,500 pounds of food collected — that has since turned into a quarterly affair. The Democrats held subsequent drives in March and September. The next drive will take place on Saturday ahead of Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, which is typically set aside as a day of service. This year's effort comes in the third calendar year of the coronavirus pandemic, when many local families are still struggling to make ends meet. "We thank the people in the area for their past and continuing support for this worthy cause," MDCC Chairman Dan Caruso said in a news release. "As we continue to deal with the pandemic, the need to help our neighbors is still there." This year's drive for the Marlborough Community Cupboard is seeking a few specific items: Children's items like diapers and wipesCooking materials like oil and sugarBaking goods like cake, muffin and pancake mixesPeanut butter and jellyCanned goods: pasta, chili, soup, beans and vegetablesSnacks like crackers, cookies, raisins, Jell-O and popcornHot and cold breakfast cerealsCondiments like ketchup, mustard and mayonnaise.Residents can drop off items between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday at the lower parking lot at Navin Arena, 451 Bolton St. Donors should practice social distancing and wear masks. If you have questions, contact MDCC members Pam McNair ([email protected]) or Teria Ellis ([email protected]) or by calling McNair at (508) 294-5481.
