VALRICO, FL — Kelli Michael, a STEM teacher, at Mulrennan Middle School in Valrico is in the running for the National Hockey League's (NHL) "Most Valuable Teacher," Bay News 9 reported.
The Tampa Bay Lightning is asking residents to vote for Michael, who has been teaching for 26 years. Alex Killorn, Lightning forward, created a video asking fans to vote for her. Voting closes January 31.
Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) teachers are recognized through the Most Valuable Teacher program that the NHL started. Thousands of dollars in new technology will be distributed to the winning teachers' school districts giving students the advantage of using the most up to date devices.
