SHOREWOOD, WI — The Shorewood School District is in need of substitute teachers, it announced via Facebook on Tuesday, and almost anyone can help. The substitute teacher shortage is not exclusive to Shorewood. Schools across Wisconsin have been dealing with shortages for months, such as in Greendale, where schools had to convert to virtual learning last week because too many teachers were isolating or quarantining because of positive COVID-19 tests. In Milwaukee Public Schools, the largest district in Wisconsin, almost 300 classrooms are without a regular teacher, and the coronavirus pandemic has only made the problem worse across Wisconsin, USA TODAY reported. Here's how you can help the Shorewood School District by being a substitute: The requirements to be a substitute teacher include: Associate's degree.Wisconsin Teaching or Substitute License.Requirements to be a substitute paraprofessional: High school diploma.Special education paraprofessionals require a special education aide license.If you don't have a teaching, substitute or special education aide license, Teachers On Call, the program used by SSD, can provide training and application guidance for the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
