Beverly Awarded $33K State Recycling Grant

BEVERLY, MA —Beverly has received a $33,000 state grant designed to help maximize recycling, composting and waste reduction. The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection Bureau of Air & Waste grant is part of $3.1 million in state funding to 268 communities. The state funding rewards communities that have implemented policies to maximize reuse, recycling and waste reduction programs. Beverly has spent Recycling Dividends Program funds in the past on distributing reusable bags to businesses following its ordinance prohibiting single-use bags, the styrofoam recycling event — held this past weekend — with the Salem and supporting the salary of a new compliance officer position tasked with managing the city's waste reduction efforts. "We are committed to reducing our community's solid waste, improving recycling practices, expanding composting options for food waste, and in turn saving valuable tax dollars on trash disposal costs," Beverly Mayor Michael Cahill said.
