PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — As of Tuesday, Prince George's County saw a 1,696 percent case increase in a 14-day period, according to data from The New York Times, with a total positive COVID-19 case count of 146,908. The county has been unable to update case data to its site during most of December because of technical issues. The state has 850,316 confirmed cases and 112,086 deaths total, reports the Maryland Department of Health. Get tested The Prince George's County Health Department offers free COVID-19 tests. Patients do not need a doctor's prescription or insurance to get tested; however, you must present identification. Testing at a health department location is limited to residents 10 years of age and older. COVID-19 testing is available at the following sites operated or supplied by the Prince George's County Health Department: Bunker Hill Fire Station (free rapid tests available); Monday through Friday 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.First United Methodist Church of Hyattsville; Monday and Thursday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.Roseu Medical Center; (book testing appointments online or call 301-604-8000) Monday through FridayCity of Praise Family Ministries; Monday noon to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Friday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. People also can use an interactive map to find testing sites located in Prince George's County that are either operated by the county, the state or a private organization. The Prince George's County Health Department and Office of Emergency Management will hand out 25,000 at-home rapid COVID-19 test kits at designated locations each week in partnership with the Prince George's County Memorial Library System and the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission. The COVID-19 test kits are free, regardless of insurance or immigration status. Residents will be required to show proof of county residency to receive a test kit. Examples of proof of residency include, but are not limited to, a driver's license, utility bill or lease agreement. One test kit, which contains two tests, will be distributed per person ages 2 years or older. Get vaccinated As of Tuesday, 68 percent of Prince George's County residents of all ages have been fully vaccinated, reports The New York Times. You can register for vaccines at this site and a variety of sites by using the state vaccine locator at https://coronavirus.maryland.gov/pages/vaccine#locator. The county's community vaccination site at the Largo Student Center at the Prince George's Community College accepts walk-ins but appointments are encouraged. Vaccines are free for individuals ages 5 and older. Booster shots are available for ages 16 and older. The student center is open for vaccines Monday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. with walk-ins accepted between 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.; Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with walk-ins accepted from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and the fourth Saturday of every month from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free vaccines are also available for first, second or booster doses at PGCPS elementary schools through the end of January.
