STERLING, VA — A pair of incidents drew a police response in Sterling on Monday, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office. In the afternoon, deputies received a report for an indecent exposure, and in the evening, two people were hospitalized after a firearm unintentionally discharged, police said. The indecent exposure was reported to police around 1:45 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 10. The incident occurred in the Marshalls store in the 46200 block of Cranston Street. A person at the store told police that they saw a man performing a sexual act at the store. She described the suspect as a white man wearing a black facemask, a grey hooded sweatshirt, and a tan baseball cap. The incident is still being investigated, police said. Just before 11:30 p.m. on Monday, authorities received a report of a gunshot in the 20600 block of Smithfield Court in Sterling. A resident told police that he was showing a firearm to a family member when the firearm discharged a round, striking both of them. The two family members, who authorities only identified as a man and a woman, were taken to a local hospital. There injuries were considered to be serious, but not life-threatening, the sheriff's office said in a report. Authorities are still investigating the shooting, and no charges have been announced. Elsewhere in Sterling, a pair of thefts were reported at the Walmart in the 45400 block of Dulles Crossing Plaza. One woman told police that someone took her wallet from her purse while she was shopping, authorities said. A short time later, another woman said money was taken from her purse.
