PRINCETON, NJ - A two-alarm fire displaced five people and destroyed part of a home in Wiggins Street on Monday afternoon. On Monday, Jan. 10, at 3:15 p.m., the Princeton Fire Department, Princeton First Aid and Rescue Squad and Princeton Police were dispatched to the unit block of Wiggins St. for an attic fire. On arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke and fire emanating from the rear of the structure, 3rd floor, and roof, said Michael Yeh, Director, Princeton Department of Emergency & Safety Services (PFARS). Five occupants of three separate apartments were displaced by the fire. No injuries were reported. According to Yeh, two occupants in the 3rd-floor apartment smelled and observed smoke emanating from an HVAC vent and immediately called 911. Firefighters from Plainsboro, Princeton Plasma Physics Lab FD, Princeton Junction, West Windsor Emergency Services, Hamilton, Hopewell, Kingston, Rocky Hill, and Montgomery were called in to aid. The Lawrenceville and Pennington Fire Companies covered Princeton during that time, said Yeh. The investigation is being conducted by Princeton Fire Marshal Joseph Novak and his staff.
