Description
KATY, TX — A Katy elementary school classroom was shut down for one day Monday because of three positive tests for COVID-19, a Katy ISD spokesperson confirmed to Patch on Tuesday.
The mitigation efforts occurred in third-grade classroom at Stanley Elementary School, and class already is back in session for asymptomatic students, Katy ISD Media Relations and Multimedia Manager Maria DiPetta said. Most of the students were asymptomatic and are back in school, DiPetta added.
The school district can't release the names or information about the people who tested positive because of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
The mitigation effort was put in place out of an abundance of caution to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus, DiPetta said.
Students who test positive for COVID-19 or exhibit symptoms can return to class when symptoms have improved, at least 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared, and at least 24 hours after fever subsides without the use of fever-reducing medications, according to the school district's Safe Return To School Plan. Students and staff associated with a mitigated classroom can elect to return to school with a lab confirmed negative COVID-19 test, voluntarily provide vaccination documentation or elect to self-isolate for up to 10 days.
Providing proof of vaccination to Katy ISD is not required and completely voluntary, DiPetta said.
