Press release from City of Fort Worth: January 11, 2022 Beginning Jan. 18, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program will help taxpayers who make less than $60,000 per year claim valuable tax credits and file their 2021 returns. Taxpayers may apply online any time but must make an appointment for in-person or curbside drop-off service. Appointments can also be made by calling 682-428-2939. VITA is an IRS-supported, free income tax preparation program for low- to moderate-income individuals and families. Community volunteers, certified by the IRS, help taxpayers prepare their tax returns at no cost. Locations offering in-person help by appointment: Another option is curbside drop-off service, which allows taxpayers to drop off tax documents by appointment at several VITA locations. Taxpayers are given a cell phone number to call when they arrive. A staff member comes to their vehicle, copies tax documents and returns them to the taxpayer.
