EAST PROVIDENCE, RI — A new COVID-19 test site opened in East Providence this week. The site at Fuller Library will administer 260 tests per day.
"My administration has been working with Gov. McKee's office and the Rhode Island Department of Health to open a second testing site here in our city," Mayor Roberto DaSilva said. "Opening a second, state-run testing site in East Providence provides our residents and residents throughout the state with access to a quick test and result, enabling all of us to #StopTheSpread of COVID-19."
The walkthrough site at 260 Dover Ave. opened Wednesday and will operate daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Appointments are required, and can be scheduled online using the Rhode Island Department of Health's portal.
The city's first state run site at 610 Waterman Ave. opened in May 2020, adjacent to the the senior center. It will continue to operate, "highlight[ing] the collaboration of all East Providence departments as it pertains to emergency management and public health," the city said.
"These are trying times for our state and the entire nation as we all continue to navigate through the uncertainties of the COVID-19 pandemic," Mayor DaSilva said. "And we will do whatever it takes to keep our residents safe and healthy."
Programs currently held at Fuller Library will either go virtual or will move to Weaver Library. Visit the library's website for the most up-to-date information.
"Libraries are partners in a healthy community and we are proud to be a part of EastProvidence's effort to offer more testing opportunities to our residents," said Joyce May, the library director.
