RIVERHEAD, NY — Those hoping to attend a Martin Luther King, Jr. Day event in Riverhead can do so this year in person or through Zoom. "MLK: Through Many Voices," is an event hosted by the Riverhead Anti-Bias Task Force on Saturday at 10 a.m. The program will feature speeches and writings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., "brought to life" by local men inspired to follow in his footsteps, the ABTF said. Among the readers will be Suffolk County Sheriff Errol Toulon, Dr. James Banks, college coordinator of multicultural affairs and consultant to the Center for Social Justice for Human Understanding at Suffolk County Community College, East End NAACP President Larry Street, and Reverend Charles Coverdale and Deacon Robert "Bubbie" Brown, both of the First Baptist Church of Riverhead. This event is free to the public and will be held at the Riverhead Library or can be attended virtually on Zoom. Pre-registration is required for either. The MLK celebration is the first of the Riverhead ABTF's new monthly series of community events to be held at the Riverhead Free Library. On February 19, the ABTF will honor Black History Month with a workshop on "How to be an Ally," exploring when and how to step up and speak out in support of anyone in need. Registration is open.
