Qualifications • Collision repair experience required. • I-CAR Certified is preferred. • Ability to properly complete light to heavy repairs, including structural work. • Valid driver's license. Responsibilities • Examines damaged vehicles, and plans out their repair process, while keeping timelines in mind. • Repairs vehicles per the estimate, and in accordance to manufacturer standards. • Assists in the decision making process on repairing vs. replacing- must consider safety, cost and cycle time. • Effectively communicates & relays information regarding the status of the repair. • Checks parts against the estimate, and ensures all parts are received in a timely manner. • Requests parts as needed, and informs the estimator anytime wrong parts are received. • Maintains tools and equipment in a proper state of repair. • Maintains and wears all necessary safety and health PPE. • Removes upholstery, accessories, electrical and hydraulic window operating equipment, and trim to gain access to vehicle and fenders. • Removes damaged fenders, panels, etc. • Files, grinds and sands repaired surfaces. • Bolt or weld replacement parts into position, using wrenches or welding equipment. • Repair or replace defective mechanical parts. • Complies with all laws and regulations pertaining to paint, thinners, and other hazardous materials. Reports any deviations to management. • Cooperates and assists other personnel in the repair and prepping of vehicles. Physical Demands • Walking: Various tasks will require walking as much as 100 yards on concrete or asphalt surfaces. 30-40% of the day will require walking in multiple increments. • Carrying/Lifting: 30-40% of the day will be spent carrying objects that weigh less than 10 lbs. Less than 1% of the day will be spent lifting objects that weigh over 10 lbs. but not more than 50 lbs. These objects may come in various shapes and sizes. If the object is too bulky or heavy, the ASM must seek assistance. • Pushing/Pulling: Technicians will occasionally push inoperative vehicles in and out of parking spaces or work stalls. This function will always be assisted by other service employees; therefore, it will not require more than 50 lbs. of torque or effort. • Bending/Twisting: Certain tasks will require the technician to bend and/or twist from either waist, knees, neck, back, or arms (e.g., getting in and out of vehicles, visually inspecting vehicles, etc.). These functions are necessary 20-25 times per day. 10-15% of the day will require bending and/or twisting. • Reaching/Handling: All tasks performed by the technician will require the use of hands and arms (i.e., computer operation, accessing vehicle engine compartment, writing, answering phones, etc.). 80% of the day will require reaching and/or handling.. • Crawling/Kneeling: Some crawling and/or kneeling may be necessary to inspect under a vehicle at ground level. This function may be necessary 10-12 times a day in 1-5 minute increments. Language Skills • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
