Celebrate MLK Day as a “day on, not a day off” through 5 different service stations as part of the larger MLK Day Celebration. Who this in person service event is for: Ages 2-12. Adult caregivers are required to accompany child participants. Siblings of participants outside this age range are welcome, but may find the event to be less meaningful and fulfilling. What you'll be doing: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said "Everybody can be great. Because anybody can serve." Join us as we share this message with the kids of Columbus and celebrate MLK Day with our friends from White Castle and in partnership with the King Arts Complex and the Ohio History Connection! Seeds of Caring will provide 5 youth service stations as part of the larger MLK Open House Celebration at the Ohio History Center. Activities will include making posters with Pint Size Protesters, assembling personal care kits for neighbors in need, decorating and packing snack bags for unhoused neighbors, designing bookmarks promoting diversity in literature with Harper’s Corner, and creating take-home art inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy. Seeds of Caring's youth service activities will be available in Gallery 3 and the Ohio History Center will be open to the public with free admission for exploration throughout the day. The MLK Open House Celebration will have live performances with limited seating capacity from 12-2. COVID-19 Protocol: Masks are required for everyone and mask wearing will be enforced. Our hosts at the Ohio History Center have these COVID policies in place. Seeds of Caring has spaced out registrations throughout the day to lessen crowds. However, please note this is a larger event where social distancing may be limited. Consider this when deciding if this event is a good fit for your family, and kindly cancel your registration should you choose not to attend.
