WHERE: George Mason University’s Merten Hall (4400 University Drive, Fairfax, VA 22030) HOSTED BY: The Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority and the George Mason University School of Business The 2022 Housing Symposium will bring together elected leaders, industry professionals, policy experts, and housing advocates as we take an in-depth look at the essential role of affordable housing as a foundation for economic recovery, growth, and opportunity. AGENDA9 to 11 A.M.: Welcome and Plenary Discussion – Affordable Housing: Leading Sustainable and Equitable Economic Growth - Speakers will highlight the imperative for affordable housing in the region and, specifically, Fairfax County as well as why support for the issue is critical. The session will also focus on the importance of housing as a tool to foster equitable economic growth and recovery from the pandemic. 11 to 11:15 A.M.: Break 11:15 A.M. to 12:15 P.M.: Session #1: Enabling Economic Mobility Through Affordable Housing - Panelists will focus on the role housing plays in increasing economic mobility in Fairfax County through an equity perspective. 12:15 to 1 P.M.: Lunch 1 to 2 P.M.: Session #2: Narrowing the Wealth Gap through Homeownership - This session will emphasize racial wealth gaps and how wealth can be created through homeownership opportunities. 2 to 2:15 P.M.: Break 2:15 to 3:30 P.M.: Session #3: Beyond Housing – Expanding Opportunities through Innovation; Closing Remarks - This session will focus on modernizing existing affordable housing properties; innovations in green development, and the intentional creation of communities of opportunity.
