NEW YORK CITY — A Queens man brazenly — and repeatedly — threatened to kill former President Donald Trump in a string of interviews and voicemails with federal authorities, according to a new criminal filing. The threats prompted authorities to charge Thomas Welnicki, 71, of Rockaway Beach, with threatening to inflict bodily harm on a former president. The "former president" is unnamed in a criminal complaint filed last week in federal court, but the circumstances outlined in the document makes clear it's Trump. Welnicki told authorities in July 2020 that if the former president lost that year's election and refused to step down that he'd "acquire weapons" and "take him down," according to the complaint. "I don't want to hurt anyone, but I will stand up to fascism," Welnicki said, the complaint states. Trump continues to claim that he actually won the 2020 election — a widely debunked falsehood unsupported by facts, numerous recounts and dozens of court cases. Welnicki after the election continued to threaten Trump, according to the document, which refers to the former president as "Individual-1." He left a series of voicemails to authorities detailed in the complaint. "He repeatedly referred to Individual-1 as 'Hitler' and stated, 'I will do everything I can to make sure [Individual-1] is dead,'" the document states. Welnicki was arrested and faces arraignment on his criminal charge. Welnicki Complaint by Matt Troutman on Scribd
