MARLBOROUGH, MA — One of the best reasons to leave home during an unprecedented surge in COVID-19 cases is to get a booster shot. Marlborough will offer two chances to get boosted over the next week. The Board of Health will provide Moderna boosters at two clinics set for Jan. 12 and Jan. 19. The clinics are by appointment only, and you can sign up for a slot here. The clinics will be held at the Bethel Presbyterian Church and Jericho Hill Lodge. Booster shots have been approved for anyone who has been fully vaccinated six or more months ago (five months people who got two doses of Moderna). The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has also approved mixing shots for the booster — for example, someone who got two Pfizer doses can get a Moderna booster. Although vaccinated people can still get COVID-19, vaccines provide a high level of protection against severe disease, hospitalization and death, according to health officials. Coronavirus cases have been surging to all-time highs across the state thanks to the omicron variant. In Marlborough, the city was adding about 2,916 new cases per day per 100,000 residents over the week ending Jan. 5. There were also 1,057 active cases in Marlborough as of Jan. 5. During the previous surge one year ago, Marlborough reached a high of 423 active cases on Jan. 15, 2021. During that same time, Marlborough was only adding about 89 new cases per day per 100,000 residents. Want a booster shot TODAY? Visit the state vaccine website to find an appointment.
