SUMMIT, NJ — Summit's Volunteer First Aid Squad announced its new Leadership team for 2022 — welcoming a new president and vice president to the squad. Mayor Nora Radest visited the Squad building in Summit on Sunday to deliver the Oath of Office and greet the new team. The Squad announced that last year's volunteers answered 2,221 emergency calls. Kevin Caropreso is the Squad's new president and previously served as vice president. Caropreso served on the Montgomery First Aid Squad for 35 years before moving to Summit in 2017. He has been an active member since 1983 and served in numerous positions, including five terms as president. George Shepherd is also the new Deputy Chief, and Paul Raynolds will serve as Maintenance Lieutenant. Training Lieutenant Robert Endress, Equipment Lieutenant John Christmann, Personnel Lieutenant Kerry Whitcher and Records Lieutenant Mel Harari are all continuing in their positions. Nora Burd will serve as Corresponding Secretary, and Treasurer Bob Mendes and Recording Secretary Rob McGrath are returning to their respective roles, as well. Squad Trustees include: Laura Benevento, Beverly Brown, and Fred Schwarzmann. The volunteer squad responds to responds to emergency calls 24/7 and is entirely funded through private donations.
