Former Milford Homeowner Allegedly Voted Twice In 2020 Election

MILFORD, CT — A former Milford resident was arrested in Florida after he allegedly voted in the 2020 general election twice. Records from the Sumter County Sheriff's Office (SCSO) show Charles Barnes, 64, was arrested on Jan. 4 at the Wildwood, Florida Police Department on a warrant for one charge of "fraud – cast(ing) more than one ballot at any election." Barnes allegedly voted in-person in Florida on Oct. 28, 2020, in addition to casting an absentee ballot in Connecticut on Nov. 3, 2020, CT Insider reported. Barnes was born in Connecticut, the SCSO records show, and CT Insider said he bought a home in Milford in 1990. He's voted in Connecticut elections since 2001, according to CT Insider. His address is now in The Villages, Florida, records show, and the Orlando Sentinel reported that he registered to vote in Florida in 2019. He's not affiliated with a political party in Florida, the newspaper said. Barnes was taken to the Sumter County Detention Center on Jan. 4, and was released after posting a $2,000 bond, according to the Sheriff's Office, which served the warrant for his arrest.
