ELMHURST, IL — As of Friday, Elmhurst School District 205 reported that 232 students and 58 employees were confirmed as having the coronavirus, according to the district's website. That is nearly triple the number from the last day of school before winter break. The number of students with the coronavirus make up about 2.7 percent of the student body. Edison Elementary School had the greatest percentage, at 6.3 percent. Edison reported more students with the coronavirus than each of the three middle schools, which are larger. Another 124 students district-wide were quarantined as the result of close contacts with those with the coronavirus outside school. No one was reported Friday as quarantined because of close contacts at school. Students who are vaccinated do not need to quarantine as the result of close contacts, according to the district. As of Friday, 2.4 percent of students at the district's biggest school, York High, had the coronavirus. In a statement Sunday, District 205 said health agencies have allowed schools to reduce quarantine time for students and staff to five days, from 10 days. That means students who went into quarantine Thursday can return to school Tuesday.
