NORTHFIELD, MN — Minnesota House Representative Todd Lippert announced in a statement Thursday that he would not run for re-election in 2022.
Lippert represents District 20B, which encompasses Northfield, as well as other cities and townships.
"I have decided not to run for re-election in 2022," he said in a statement. "I plan to finish out my term, and I'll work with people in my district to achieve as many wins as possible in the upcoming session."
"I have given my professional life to creating healthy, vital, and compassionate rural communities," he continued. "I ran for office because I care about rural people and want us to see the needs we share in common across race and geography."
Lippert said that since the last election and the insurrection at the capitol, he has been drawn to the growing conversation of how Democrats can better connect with residents of rural communities.
"I feel a sense of urgency about giving more of my time to this particular work," he said.
According to the Minnesota Legislature website, Lippert was elected in 2018 and is on his second term.
"I am grateful for my district and my community for allowing me to serve them for these two terms," he said. "It has been a joy and an honor."
