Press release from the White Plains Public Library: January 4, 2022 Join Librarian Barbara Wenglin via Zoom to explore compelling selections with the theme of "couples." We will conclude in January with related film discussions. Register here for remainder of series and attend when you can. Thursdays from 2:00 – 4:15 p.m. on Zoom In varied settings and cultures, the selections deal with "Couples" and their intriguing, sometimes mismatched, often edgy relationships. January 13 – Film Discussion Love Story (Paramount 1970, 1hr 40 min) Classic award-winning, heartrending feature with Ryan O'Neal as the old-money Harvard man, Oliver Barrett III, who is smitten by a no-money Radcliffe music student, Jenny Cavilleri, played by Golden Globe Winner, Ali MacGraw. Directed by Arthur Hiller, screenplay by Erich Segal, with Oscar score by Francis Lai. To view before meeting on Library's Kanopy or to borrow as DVD through the catalog, also on Amazon Prime. January 20 – Film Discussion The Loving Story (HBO documentary 2011, 1hr 17min) The 1967 landmark case of Richard and Mildred Loving, a mixed racial couple from Virginia, went to the US Supreme Court in this dramatic Peabody & Emmy Award-winning account with interviews of the couple and their ACLU lawyers. To view before meeting, streamed via hoopla or as DVD through the catalog. Optional added feature film, Loving (Focus 2016, 2hrs), moving and heartfelt, based on above civil rights documentary, Golden Globe and Oscar nominee.
