GEORGIA — Dawgs, Crimson Tide fans and all other college football enthusiasts have one more night of pigskin glory to revel in this season.
Monday night's College Football Playoff Championship will feature a rematch of the Southeastern Conference title game in which top-ranked University of Georgia fell to a then-No. 3 Alabama football program playing the unfamiliar role of the underdog. The rankings have since traded hands.
Monday night's game gives the Georgia Bulldogs a chance at redemption for the 41-24 loss they suffered last month in Atlanta. It also gives Alabama sophomore quarterback Bryce Young, who was named Most Valuable Player for his play in the SEC Championship — with 421 passing yards on 26 of 44 throws, three touchdown passes, and one rushing touchdown — a chance to punctuate his Heisman Trophy-winning season.
But Georgia, which had the best defense in college football during the 2021 season, is sure to recalibrate its play to contain Young, after dominating Michigan 34-11 in last week's Orange Bowl to build some momentum for Monday night's game. And the Bulldogs are all that stand in the way of back-to-back titles for the Crimson Tide.
The College Football Playoff Championship kicks off at 8 p.m. Eastern Time and will be broadcast life from Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana, on ESPN and livestreaming on fuboTV.
