My final day in NYC, I decided to take the D train uptown from Grand. On the platform, I squeezed in next to a cute girl. An old lady asked her for directions, then asked me. I pointed the old lady to the World Trade Center. She thanked me warmly “Oh bless you sweetheart!”
The cute girl said “that was nice of you” and we found out we’re both from SoCal. She’s from Sherman Oaks, I’m moving back to San Diego tomorrow.
Her stunning blue eyes froze me like the 30 degrees outside.
Normally, at this point, I would have asked for her name and to meet again. But, I hesitated because I am leaving.
We boarded the D and I offered her a seat on the packed train. When she got off at W 4th, she said “Good luck with your move.” I whispered a “Let’s see each other some time.” But she didn’t hear me and I didn’t run after her.
Like a Beatles' song, I saw her standing there for the F/M as my train, and my regret, sped from the station.
