25 March, 2022

Description

Glue joints, pocket hole joints, dowel and biscuit joints. We will teach methods and discuss when particular joints are preferable. The purpose of the series is to give a cohort of inexperienced students the fundamental skills that are needed to safely and skillfully work in the woodshop. At the end of this series, each student should feel confident with the tools in the Los Alamos Makers wood shop and be able to complete projects in the shop successfully. Students will be allowed to pick and choose from the classes as desired, but it is highly recommended to do as many of the courses as possible, because most projects require the use of a variety of tools in the shop. This class is 2 hours long and requires the basic skills described in our Miter Saw, Table Saw1 and Jointer and Planer classes. You don't have to have taken those classes specifically, but you need to have the skills described. This class will go over glue joints, pocket hole joints, dowel and biscuit joints. We will teach methods and discuss when particular joints are preferable. Advanced methods, such as dovetail joints will NOT be discussed, but will be the subject of future classes. If you are not yet part of our Woodworking Meetup, feel free to join here: https://www.meetup.com/Los-Alamos-Woodworking-Meetup/ Los Alamos Makers is Los Alamos' makerspace: a space to share space, tools, equipment, expertise and socialize.
