The purpose of the series is to give a cohort of inexperienced students the fundamental skills that are needed to safely and skillfully work in the woodshop. At the end of this series, each student should feel confident with the tools in the Los Alamos Makers wood shop and be able to complete projects in the shop successfully. Students will be allowed to pick and choose from the classes as desired, but it is highly recommended to do as many of the courses as possible, because most projects require the use of a variety of tools in the shop.
The jointer is used to flatten imperfect boards, while the planer is used to make two faces of the board co-planar. Learn how to use these tools safely and effectively. We will discuss tool setup and workpiece holding in detail, as well as techniques for making good cuts.
