We will discuss miter cuts, bevel cuts, when and how to change the blade, how to safely hold the workpiece and how to get precise cuts.
The purpose of the series is to give a cohort of inexperienced students the fundamental skills that are needed to safely and skillfully work in the woodshop. At the end of this series, each student should feel confident with the tools in the Los Alamos Makers wood shop and be able to complete projects in the shop successfully. Students will be allowed to pick and choose from the classes as desired, but it is highly recommended to do as many of the courses as possible, because most projects require the use of a variety of tools in the shop.
The miter saw is primarily used to make crosscuts on long boards, and can make angled cuts (miters and bevels). In this class, you will learn how to use the miter saw safely and effectively. We discuss miter cuts, bevel cuts, when and how to change the blade, how to safely hold the workpiece, how to get precise cuts.
