Plemons DDS, MS Title: Oral Dryness and Burning Mouth Syndrome Oral dryness can be debilitating and result in complications ranging from rampant decay to traumatic ulcerations and recurrent oral infections. Burning Mouth syndrome causes significant discomfort and negatively affects a patient's quality of life despite the lack of any visible clinical change. Explore the factors associated with oral dryness and burning mouth and learn the most up-to-date therapeutic modalities to manage these complicated conditions. Learning Objectives Participants will be able to- Identify the most common causes of xerostomia and salivary hypofunction Recognize oral complications from oral dryness and develop treatment strategies to manage patients Discuss common characteristics of burning mouth syndrome as well as possible treatment strategies About the Speaker: Jacqueline M. Plemons DDS, MS Biography: Dr. Jacqueline Plemons received her dental degree and a Certificate in Periodontics from Baylor College of Dentistry. She has a Masters Degree in Oral Biology from Baylor University and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. She has a private practice in the Park Cities area of Dallas, TX where she provides quality care to patients with periodontal and oral medicine needs. Dr. Plemons serves part-time as a Clinical Professor in the Department of Periodontics at Texas A&M College of Dentistry and is the Director of the Stomatology Division. Dr. Plemons is actively involved in organized dentistry on a local, state and national level. She has served as president of the Texas Dental Association and chair of the ADA Council on Dental Education and Licensure. Dr. Plemons has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and lectures across the United States in the fields of periodontics and oral medicine. About Fellow Track: The Fellow Track program is a continuing education series created for dental school students to provide them with an early start on their progress toward the Fellowship in the AGD. The program topics are carefully selected to fit the interests and needs of the students. Students who join and participate in Fellow Track will enjoy free, student-oriented continuing education programs. By joining the Fellow Track program, students will begin earning continuing education hours toward their Fellowship. The college opened its doors in 1905, was affiliated with Baylor University from 1918 to 1971 and spent the next 25 years as an independent, private institution. In 1996, the College of Dentistry entered an entirely new era as a member of The Texas A&M University System. In 1999, the college became a founding component of the Texas A&M Health Science Center. In 2020, under the Leadership of retired 16th Dean Lawrence E. Wolinsky, a new state of the art clinical care/educational facility governed by Texas A&M University opened to serve the citizens of the state of Texas and beyond.
