The Susanna Dickinson Museum is open for scheduled tours! (For each reservation time slot, multiple people in the same party may attend.)
The Dickinson Museum, built in 1869, was the home of Susanna Dickinson Hannig, best know as the Messenger of the Alamo, and her fifth husband Joseph Hannig. They lived in Austin from 1858 until Susanna's death in 1883. In this small--but comfortable--residence, you can hear more about Susanna's story and the history of Austin during the time she lived here.
The Dickinson Museum also examines the roles of the other survivors of the Battle of the Alamo in addition to Susanna Dickinson. Although the popular myth is that there were no survivors besides Susanna and her daughter Angelina, this is in fact not true. Come find out more about who else survived the battle and what the aftermath was like for them.
Please note: Due to Austin's Stage 5 Covid restrictions, visitors are asked to please wear a mask inside all City of Austin facilities. Thank you, and we hope to see you soon!
