MEDFORD, NY — A 39-year-old woman was killed after her car went off the Long Island Expressway in Medford early Sunday morning, Suffolk police said.
The woman was driving a 2010 Mercury Milan in the left lane of the westbound Long Island Expressway near Exit 65, police said, adding that the vehicle veered across the roadway, spun around, and crashed into a wooded area at about 12:35 a.m.
The woman, whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue where she was pronounced dead, police said. A 40-year-old male passenger in her car was transported to the same hospital for treatment of "non-life-threatening injuries," according to police.
The car was impounded for a safety check, police said. Detectives are asking anyone with information about the crash to call the 6th Squad at 631-854-8652.
