EAST HARLEM, NY — A teenage girl is dead after a masked man tried to rob the East Harlem fast food restaurant where she worked Sunday morning, according to police. Kristal Bayron-Nieves, 19, was fatally shot inside a Burger King on East 116th Street between Third and Lexington avenues about 12:45 a.m., according to police. The unidentified gunman reportedly pistol-whipped a customer and punched another employee before shooting Bayron-Nieves, according to police. The would-be robber — who can be seen in surveillance footage dressed in black, carrying a plastic bag and wielding a gun — then fled west down East 116th Street, police said. Bayron-Nieves was rushed to Metropolitan Hospital but doctors were unable to save her life, officials said. According to police, the teen lived just a few blocks from the restaurant.
