Description

Looking For Forever Home He is a Shetland Sheep dog, American Eskimo mix, 4 years old, and weighs about 20 lbs. He was neutered and vaccinated summer of 2021. He has lived with and is good with children, cats, and other mellow dogs. He has fear reactivity. This causes him to be afraid of strangers and loud noises. If someone is coming into his space that he doesn’t know he will charge and bark at them. If he is given time to observe the the new person (on place) he is able to be very friendly. He loves attention, playing with his toys, fetch, frisbee, hiking, and water. He came to live with us about 9 months ago. His family was moving and they were unable to take him with them. He has experienced some trauma. There were times that he would be locked in a kennel or a room for long periods of time. This has caused some resource guarding of food and treats, including not wanting to share his people at times. He has a few bites on his record all over resources. For the most part he is doing very well now. He will need to live with someone who has rules and boundaries. He knows his basic commands, sit, down, place, stand, crate trained, potty trained, and walks well on a leash. He still has some fear on walks depending on where he is at. Parks with a lot of activity are still scary to him but he is able to work through it for the most part. He has been able to go to the groomer without any problems and walked in a little downtown area with shops and restaurants. He needs a person/family that will be able to exercise him daily. He is trained to walk/trot on a treadmill, loves to be off leash in a fenced area so he can play and run freely. He loves attention and wants so badly to be someone’s number one. Having some experience with herding breeds and fear reactivity would be a plus. He is currently living with two other dogs and two cats. He does great with my mellow dog but my other dog has fear reactivity and they set each other off. I have to watch them closely when playing. We have taken him hiking many times, to the ocean, and on family vacations he does well with traveling. He is a sweet soul but will require everyday training and patience.
