Residents Oppose Casey's General Store Proposal

GRAYSLAKE, IL — Several Grayslake residents are voicing their opposition to a developer's proposal to build a new Casey's General Store at the southwest corner of Lake Street and Belvidere Road. Over the past week, green yard signs could be spotted around town that read, "Yes to Grayslake, No to Casey's Gas Station," according to the Daily Herald. Those opposed to the gas stationfear the addition will lower property values for Grayslake residents, cause traffic woes in the area, and cause a revenue loss for nearby small businesses. The plan calls for Lake Street Motors, which leases the building at 302 S. Lake St., to move, according to the article. "We're making money and never want to leave,"Lake Street Motors owner James Jeffrey told the newspaper. The Casey's General Store plan would include construction of a 4,540-square-foot convenience store and 14 fueling stations. The city received the plans for the development this week and its not immediately clear when it will go before the plan commission for review. More via the Daily Herald
