Press release from the Miami-Dade County Government: January 7, 2022 County offices and libraries will be closed Monday, Jan. 17 in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday. County Services The Pet Adoption and Protection Center will be closed on Monday, Jan. 17. Solid Waste Management will not collect curbside garbage or trash Monday, Jan. 17. Recycling will be collected. Miami‑Dade Libraries will be closed Monday, Jan. 17. Miami-Dade Transit will operate on a regular schedule. Events Seeding, Equity & Entrepreneurship - In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. - Thursday, Jan. 13To honor Dr. King's dream of economic equality and hopes for prosperity, this networking mixer and dinner is a community event intended to inspire a select pool of graduate students by highlighting minority-owned hospitality businesses. 2nd Annual MLK Day Bike RideThe community and officers will ride together with the hope to reduce gun violence and cultivate relationships. The event will take place on Jan. 15 at 8 a.m. Riders wishing to be part in this event, should start lining at Charles Hadley Park, 1350 NW 50th Street, Miami, FL 33142. Face masks are required for all participants. Liberty City 45th annual MLK Parade - Monday, Jan. 17Miami's longest running parade is back on Jan. 17 at 11 a.m. It covers eight miles along Northwest 54th Street from 10th to 32nd avenues in Liberty City. Pre-Parade 5K Run & Fitness Walk - Monday, Jan. 17Participate in the annual 5K Run & Fitness Walk, which begins at 8 a.m. at the MLK Plaza Metrorail Station. Runners should arrive for registration between 6:30 and 7:45 a.m. Get Involved Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service - Jan. 17Join Hands On Miami to recognize the only federal holiday that is a national day of service. Join several virtual volunteer opprtunities around the community.  Honoring Dr. King with the United Way of Miami-DadeHelp pack snacks for local families on Saturday, Jan. 16 or contribute your volunteer services for other activities.
