MANSFIELD, OH — The Bed Bath & Beyond in Mansfield is one of 37 stores being shuttered by chain as part of an initial downsizing plan. About 200 stores will be shuttered this year and will close by the end of February, including the location on Walker Lake in Mansfield. Bed Bath & Beyond is remodeling 450 stores, about half of its locations, at a cost of $250 million to try to stem falling sales. Shoppers have turned to competitors such as Target and Amazon is recent years. There are eight Bed Bath & Beyond locations in northern Ohio, including stores on Ridge Road in Cleveland, Detroit Road in Westlake, Royalton Road in Strongsville, Kruse Drive in Solon, Mentor Avenue in Mentor, West Market Street in Fairlawn, Strip Avenue in Canton, and Boardman Poland Road in Youngstown. In 2020, the company said the plan to close approximately 200 stores was part of an effort to "right-size" its real estate portfolio.
