Press release from the City of Huntsville: January 7, 2022 The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) has requested the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency's State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) lead a death investigation related to an incident on Lawsons Ridge Drive that occurred Friday, Jan. 7. SBI has charged HPD Officer David McCoy, who was off duty at the time of the incident, with capital murder. McCoy has been placed on administrative leave by HPD.
