Description

Celebrate the Chinese New Year with Hakka Kitchen! Celebrate the Chinese New Year with Hakka Kitchen! Hakka Kitchen, a new restaurant serving plant-based Chinese countryside cuisine under the House of Leaf & Bean brand, is hosting a Chinese New Year commemoration event on January 29 at 7 pm. To celebrate the new year, guests can enjoy a special five-course meal designed by Chef Marshall Ziehm. The Chinese New Year, also called the Spring Festival or Lunar New Year, takes place on February 1, 2022. Rather than following a traditional Gregorian calendar, the Lunar calendar’s first day starts when a new moon appears. Instead of having months, the calendar instead has 12 Chinese zodiac animal signs, which rotate with each new year. 2022 will end the year of the ox and begin the year of the tiger. People born in the year of the tiger are persistent, loyal, and strong in the face of adversity. Considered one of the most important holidays in China, over 20% of the world celebrates the Chinese New Year. Many companies take two weeks off before the holiday so employees can travel home. Traditions include family reunion dinners, fireworks, dragon/lion dances, and honoring ancestors. The Chinese New Year is deeply important to our founder, Wen Raiti. Chinese herself, Raiti celebrates every year and wants to share this important event with her guests. The five-course meal is inspired by traditional dishes families would dine on during the celebration, as are the tea/wine pairings. A big thank you to Chef Marshall, who went above and beyond to provide dishes that are conventional new year dishes with a plant-based spin! We can’t wait to dine with everyone!
